Hailing from the hiphop grindstone of Sydney’s Inner West, Ted Addic’s debut brings together defiant, rapid-fire word play and seminal, get-the-fuck-up production to create a masterful, defining EP.
As a precursor to cutting his teeth, sharpening his weapons and honing his craft on Centa Left’s Nucleus, Addic weaves together a kaleidoscope of stories, firmly grounded in the heritage of his hometown.
Strewn throughout is Addic’s political stance on the harms of drug criminalisation, and advocacy for weed culture.
It takes a village to raise a child and it takes a crew to make a rapper; Y.O.U.N.G (Youngen Organised Under New Guidance) is steeped in the influence of its peers. Executive Produced by Colourd Noyz, with production by Sinks and Jon Castaneda, and featuring Centa Left MCs Mic Pompei, A.Di.H.D. and Sydney MC Jordan Greig, Y.O.U.N.G is a reflection of the culture it represents.
Addic takes this influence and acknowledges it – and shapes it into something unique. What we are left with is an EP that looks both forwards and backwards, nodding to the past and looking with a strident gaze to the future.
From the intransigent sounds of Can’t Believe to the raucous head nodding beat of Midus Fly Touch, Ted Addic’s Y.O.U.N.G is both homage and exploration – and unmissable.
